More and more people, old and younger, are telling their life stories.
This nationwide interest in telling life stories has spurred psycho-social research and hundreds of businesses have formed to help.
The telling of one’s life story can be looked at in three dimensions that make up a matrix or life story cube. These three dimensions are the continuum from Reminiscence to Life Review; from being private to public in expression; and from being focused on content versus process.
The ways individuals choose to tell their life stories can be seen at different levels on each dimension of the life story cube. There is no right or wrong place to be on any of the life story dimensions. Mutual discussion of these dimensions of the life cube can help the individual telling a life story, as well as those listening or helping them, to determine just what he/she does or does not want to do.
